Ohio Laws for Alternative or Complimentary Health Practitioners 11/24/14

I was doing research the other day, to actually find if there were any new regulations in the state of Ohio for Reiki or other energy healing modalities that I practice, and offer to my clients.  I was also trying to find if I could call myself "legally" a practitioner; and here is what I found.  That yes,  I can call myself an alternative or complimentary health practitioner in the state of Ohio.  But there are rules that go along with this.  Read further to find out what those are.

If you offer energy work or other alternative health choices such as Aroma therapy, Reiki, I.E.T., combined energy therapy (C.E.T.) or other modalities, did you know according to Ohio laws, you must include a information form to your clients prior to working on them or for safety matters, even teaching students?  Here is what Ohio is saying:

Before providing complementary or alternative health care services to an individual for the first time, a complementary or alternative health care practitioner shall provide a plainly worded, written document to the recipient of the services that discloses all of the following information:
(1) The nature of services to be provided;
(2) The degrees, training, experience, credentials, or other qualifications held by the practitioner with regard to the services to be provided;
(3) If the practitioner is not a licensed health care professional, a statement, printed clearly in not less than eleven-point font, that reads as follows:
"THE STATE OF OHIO HAS NOT ADOPTED ANY EDUCATIONAL OR TRAINING REQUIREMENTS FOR UNLICENSED COMPLEMENTARY OR ALTERNATIVE HEALTH CARE PRACTITIONERS. UNDER OHIO LAW, AN UNLICENSED COMPLEMENTARY OR ALTERNATIVE HEALTH CARE PRACTITIONER MAY NOT PROVIDE A MEDICAL DIAGNOSIS OR RECOMMEND THAT A PERSON DISCONTINUE A MEDICALLY PRESCRIBED TREATMENT."

So if you do not already offer this to your clients, start doing so now.  Also, you can read the entire Ohio law so you understand your regulations and  to find out if your profession is listed under this bill.  To view the full version visit:   http://www.legislature.state.oh.us/bills.cfm?ID=129_HB_259 .

If you are in a different state other than Ohio, you may want to do your research; as each state has adapted their own laws pertaining to this subject.  How I found this was that I googled "What are the Ohio laws for a Reiki Practitioner" and then I scrolled until I found an actual state government site.  I'm sure you can do the same in your state.  Just keeping it legal!

I would love to hear your feedback on this... or where you can find the information regarding this subject for your state...Thanks
